CHAIRMANS WELCOME 2012

Copthorne Carnival is back on Saturday 30th June and this year it is going to be better than ever. An afternoon of great entertainment, followed by an African drum spectacular with workshop and in the evening a fantastic band followed by fireworks to close the event.

What a busy year 2012 is going to be. We have The Queens Diamond Jubilee, The European Football Championships, The Olympic Torch coming through the village, and The Olympics/Paralympics themselves. Right in the middle of all of this we have the 2012 Copthorne Carnival.

This years’ theme is “What Makes Britain Great”, and I think it is true to say that village carnivals, with all they that involve, are one of the things that contribute to Britain’s greatness. They are totally unique, and you will not see anything like it anywhere else in the world.

The Carnival this year is no exception, and we have organised some stunning entertainment for you. Starting with the procession through the village, some great performances in the arena during the afternoon, and Ebou will host an African drum spectacular in the early evening. A fantastic band, ‘The Jet Set’ will get you rocking through the evening up to the fireworks after dark. It really is a day not to be missed.

The Carnival is organised and run by volunteers, and I would like to thank those who help and support us on the day, but especially I would like to thank my committee who work tirelessly throughout the year to put the event on. Carole, Adele and Kevin, Jan, Rachel and Rob all deserve the thanks of the entire village for all their hard work.

To ensure the event stays ‘fresh’ we are always looking for new committee members with new ideas. If you think you can contribute and you can spare a few hours per month you are just the person we need. Join the committee and help organise the villages biggest and longest running event.
